Refresh or Rebrand: Which is right for your business

Are you looking to shake things up in your business? Then, it might be time to look at your branding identity. The question is, do you need a rebrand or just a refresh?

Refresh

Think of a brand refresh like a cosmetic facelift. It's about making surface-level changes while keeping your brand's core intact. This may look like a new logo, tweaking your brand colour palette or updating your website. It's a way to modernise and rejuvenate your brand without altering its fundamental essence.

Rebrand

A rebrand is a deep dive into the essence of your brand. Where you go down to the nitty-gritty of your business and the foundation that supports it. It means getting clear on your brand messaging and building new visual branding to go along with it. A rebrand is more than just a visual makeover; it's a complete transformation of how your brand is perceived.

So, how do you know it's time to reevaluate your branding? And more importantly, how do you determine whether a rebrand or a refresh is what you need? Well, I’ll let you know how!

How connected do you feel with your audience?

Let's talk about your audience. Remember the crowd you aimed at when you first started? They were perfect back then, but things changed. Your business has grown, and so have the people you're talking to.

If you feel like the folks you're reaching out to now aren’t quite the right fit anymore, it might be time for a rebrand. This means you get to introduce your business to a new group of people more in tune with where you are now.

But if you're still happy with your audience and just want to spruce things up a bit, a brand refresh is what you need. It's like giving your brand a nice little polish to keep it looking fresh and in step with the times without changing who you are at heart.

So, think about it – are you and your audience still on the same page? If yes, a little refresh should do the trick. If not, let's talk about a rebrand.

You don’t want to send people to your website

Ok, let’s be honest here. Are you too embarrassed to send people to your website? Or when you are asked for your business card, you conveniently ‘left them at home’. Then, this should be a big red flag that you need to relook at your brand!

If the reason behind this is just that you feel outdated, refresh time. However, if it’s because it doesn’t reflect your business anymore, it's full rebrand time!

You feel like your business gets lost in the crowd

How crazy was it when you first started your business? You just wanted things set up so you could concentrate on what mattered - you need to make that money.

But now, a couple of years have passed, and you find that your branding doesn’t quite make the impression you want. You blend in with everyone who picked the trending colour palette and Canva template logo.

It's time for an upgrade, don’t you think?  Back in the day, you might have skipped deep-diving into your brand's personality. But now? Now’s the perfect moment to revisit that.

Let's get into the heart of your brand and give it the unique edge it deserves!
